Shunpiking magazine to participate in national conference on Palestine

HALIFAX (10 March 2005) -- SHUNPIKING magazine has been invited to present its experience on media and disinformation as a participant in the forthcoming national conference, "Palestine Lives -- A people live within a country, Palestine lives within its people", to be held 12 March at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

The conference aims to "bring together some of the most experienced academics and organizers on the question of Palestinian Human Rights. In turn, the conference will provide the most up to date information, analysis and space for discussion on the current struggle of the Palestinian people." The conference will be a coverging point for information, discussion and analysis of the current context for the Palestinian struggle.

The one-day conference is being organized by students and faculty organized in Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) at McMaster University. It comes at a time when all those defending a just solution to the Palestinian question on Canadian campuses have come under pressure from different quarters, most recently at the University of New Brunswick where authorities are demanding that all student clubs must absent themselves from political affairs. Such demands are in line with the recent outrageous policy declaration of Prime Minsiter Paul Martin that the Government of Canada's support for the state of Israel is "unconditional".

Nevertheless, as the convening of the conference demonstrates, students are far from defeatist and defensive. In fact students at Halifax-area universities are currently organizing a new Palestinian solidarity organization.

In October 2002 shunpiking magazine published the Dossier on Palestine, a 96-page work of which 20,000 copies were printed that has received acclaim throughout the world as an enlightened and indepth resource on this burning issue facing humanity. Shunpiking magazine is deeply honoured to be invited by the MacMaster students to participate in their national conference and wishes them all the best in their ongoing educative and political work.

For the information of our readers, we are reproducing the complete agenda of the "Palestine Lives" onference below.
